Bart's Bash

22/09/2014

35 RTYC members took to the waters of Queen Mary on Sunday 21st September, to compete in the world’s biggest sailing race. We are awaiting the final statistics regarding how many people took part in this global event, as the results office are working round the clock to ensure that all the results are accurately processed. Please visit the Bart’s Bash website in order to view the latest information about the event: www.bartsbash.co.uk

As for our 8 J/80s, they enjoyed a fantastic day of fleet racing, with sunny skies and a fresh breeze averaging 12kts, they sailed back to back fleet races, until the sailors were pleading to stop.

Race Officers; Jenny Woods and Linda Pennington ensured that the races got underway in a most efficient manor, whilst Younger Member Emily Parker kindly drove a RIB and ensured that all the boats were kept in check.

RTYC bosun Simon Winkley (right) competed against Sir Ben Ainslie in an RS400…needless to say, Sir Ben beat him.

As QMSC was the global hub for the event, there was a fantastic atmosphere on the water and ashore.

The first event of the J/80 season was a huge success, thank you very much to everyone who was involved. We look forward to seeing you all again later in the season.
